The Buddha’s right hand raised in abhaya mudra, the gesture of reassurance and dispelling fear, a spiral pattern carved on his palm. His other hand rests graciously by his side, long, elegant fingers pointing downwards, gently grasping the fabric of his mantle. In the context of Thai Theravada traditions, this pose is also known as Preventing the Relatives from Fighting, representing an allegorical story of the Buddha coming back to Earth after reaching Nirvana, only to find his relatives fighting over land and water.
