• Seated buddha

The Buddha’s hair builds in waves to a high usnisa. A plain nimbus surrounds the figure‘s head. The face has heavy lidded eyes, a long prominent nose, and a realistic mouth. The elongated earlobes are slightly hollowed and curve outwards.

A monastic robe covers the shoulders, its heavy folds deeply ridged to make the fabric look thick and heavy. The hands rest loosely on top of each other in the dhyana (meditation) mudra. The figure sits cross-legged on a cushion. The statue's style is characteristic of the Kushan period (circa 1st-3rd century).
