This masterpiece from the Gupta period from Mathura depicts the Buddha in Samabhanga (standing upright) wearing a dhoti and a diaphanous sanghati (robe).
The head has spiral curls with ushnisha (cranial protuberance). The beautiful circular prabhavali (halo) has many rows of elaborate carved motifs, the first being a petalled full blown lotus.
